Veggie55's Somewhat Useful Lineart Tutorial by Veggie55 Veggie55's Somewhat Useful Lineart Tutorial by Veggie55
Video's here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZtpvn…

2015 EDIT:

Looking back at this now, I'll just give you on piece of advice;

DON'T DO IT THIS WAY :nuu:

It's actually an awful, AWFUL method, use the pen-tool or a stylus instead!

Hey Veggie, i don't know if you read this but i want to thank you again for this tutorial because without it, i wouldn't have started by myself. And though i already learned how to use the path-tool, imao this is one of the best tuts here on dA. The best thing is that your english is very easy to understand, even for me as german guy. I wish you the best for the way you're up to go and please keep up this good work even if it's not pony related.

"Somewhat Useful"?? Dude, I learned the coolest technique in just 30 seconds! (I'm a total novice at digital art.) And just watching your 10:35 long video taught me much more of what I'm looking to do. You keep it simple, and your voice... [Looking at the comments, you have taken many fans captive with your accent. You should be on radio, or maybe read stories for listening.] GIMP tends to get me flustered, so I use PS mostly. But seeing how you use it so well, even if you just started, it's deserving of praise for your mastery of it. Just really impressive and EXTREMELY useful for a beginner.
:iconytp-robotnikplz: Bravo.

First go to the layers thingy.. Then go to the bottom left of it. the first thing you'll see it like a paper(if you're using windows or a paper with a plus sign on it for linux) Then you name you're layer.. then tadaaaa!! :D hope this helps.

How much did GIMP cost? Are there different versions of it where you can animate with it?

:icondanii8777:
Danii8777 Featured By Owner Apr 4, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
Gimp is totally and completely free; if you're animating with it, I think under the edit or view bar there's something at the very bottom that says 'Convert to gif'
and that should take ya to a page where it'll ask you about looping and the speed.
Not sure if that's any help, I haven't used Gimp in awhile, but I do remember having to animate a few things:)

I'm not sure if it's because GIMP has been updated, but there's no brush in my tool options that says "Circle (11)". It only has brush hardness from 25% to 100% hardness, but no specific brush sizes.

This is GIMP? Oh my god, I don't know how you're able to cope without using Photoshop!!

Btw, as embarrassing as it may seem, I have been using the pen tool in Photoshop to do the eyes instead of the circles. I totally forgot that the tool existed XD I also like the technique of using two selections to create a shape (like the eyelashes and whatnot). Thanks for the tips c:

Okay, you use the path tool to outline the pony' body. You can curve the line by pressing ctrl, and then select the ink tool and make the brush be about 5 pixels wide. Then under the path folder, select ink the path and use the ink tool and emulate brush dynamics. Once that's outlined in whatever color, make a new layer underneath, but keep the same layer selected. Use the magic wand tool to select an area and then go to the selection--grow area and make it grow by 2 or 3 pixels. Select the layer you made and color in the base color! Do this for everything, and it's easy.
