I guess this journal was a long time coming Yes, it's also about some of the commission requests I've been getting.
I'm almost pushed to remove drawing OCs altogether, since some of them I've seen are just horrible colour schemes, or worse, recolours T_T
I won't say any names but I decided to browse dA today, the latest entries for "OC Ponies".
Out of the 700 images I checked, I only liked 4 OCs.
4 out of 700.
The rest were just HORRIFIC
So
DON'T send me commission requests if your "OC" is just a recolour, has a horrible colour scheme, extra body parts (Like bat wings and other bollocks).
I will NOT, even if you paid me a fortune, draw an OC that makes me SICK.
Seriously, the majority of the ones I saw today were recolours of DJ-PON3 T___T

" Whoop de fucking doo, if it still looks like shite I won't draw it.
Stories don't work visually if your character is repulsive.
I'll just say it.
I hate about 90% of the OC ponies I've ever seen Because of lazy effort (Recolours, Same Manes ect...)
Bad Colours (Pink and Black and Green and Purple and blah blah blah)
And for just being STUPID. (You know what I mean)
"So, what, you hate EVERY OC?" No, I don't, want to see examples of ones I like? Alright.
Why? The colours go well and the mane ect isn't just a lazy copy.
Simple design and colours that go well together. What more do you need?

Again, simplicity and nice colours.
That's just some examples, there's more lying about the place.
But I just felt the need to make this, because honestly, there's been 1, maybe 2 OC requests so far (OUT OF MANY) that I might enjoy doing.
The rest, are a bunch of recolours or neon-throw-every-possible-colour-on-it ones.

I don't have one teeny bit of originality in my body, and I don't show off my OCs like their the best thing in the world. Because their not. And it really makes me gag when people strut around saying "THIS IS MY TOTALLY ORIGINAL OC, BRAINBOW CLASH!! HES RAINBOW DASH'S LONG LOST BROTHER WHO WAS CURSED TO BE AN ALLICORN AND HE SAVED THE WORLD TWICE WITH HIS AWESOMENESS!!!11!one!!1!"
Literally these colours glow at night.
I can agree with the post though, the craziness drives me crazy from it being so crazy.
Favorite of mine, totally not a 'recolor' and I think it's pretty unique ^^
