My Little Pony must be the strangest inspiration for me to write. My writing style includes demons, warriors, and despair... Then this show comes out and I have this innate desire to take my main character and throw him into the Equestrian world.
ALL THE TIME. A spark of inspiration sometimes never leaves my head.
1.) Rikushiro Onigawa (from Ground Defense Force Mao-chan) is Japan's best spin doctor. How else can you explain him able to convince the Japanese cabinet to give him money for his grand-daughter to use the alien artifact they just found? They don't need money to use that thing. It's like if Abu convinced Aladdin to give him twenty bucks every time he wanted to get a wish from Genie.
2.) There is a ninja in the Hidden Leaf's village (from Naurto) whose job is to break a rabbit's legs. Seriously, where else are ninjas learning to heal broken bones are going to get their practice animals?
3.) Dr. Stable is head of Equestria's cloning program. Earth ponies are just easier to make than unicorns, so that's why he just made a bunch of them, which is also why we see so many Caramels in the background, that three horseshoes mark isn't a cutie mark, it's to let ponies know it's a clone. This has been going on for ages though, he even helped with new colonies like Apploosa.
Most recently; the best pony I've ever drawn was last summer during my internship. It was 40C, I was in long sleeve business casual, and I was in a factory running diagnostics on a quality control system (basically, I was miserable). While I was waiting for it to cycle, I decided randomly to doodle. Picked Pinkie Pie and a pose, and just went. No reference, and standing with a clipboard.
I can hardly force myself to draw, and I never managed to do that good again all summer.
I still consider MLP:FiM to be a weird source of inspiration. Nothing wrong with that of course but if someone had approached me 2 years ago and told me i would finally pick up a pencil again cos of ponies i might have laughed at them.
One time, my friend mentioned something about the icon in a comment and it inspired me to write a completely crack comment that involved my OCs and England from APH going to a tea party. One of my OCs, a mentally insane undead dragoncat (a creature of mine. It's an unorigional name for a creature, I know.) named Kurai, is invited by Moonstar, my 'fursona', to said occasion much to the alarm and dismay of two of my other OCs. So yeah. Inspiration is fucking weird like that.
